LG air conditioning in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Cupertino is almost always ductless. The equipment comes from LG Electronics, better known for its consumer electronics, and its HVAC lineup centers on ductless mini-splits, multi-zone systems, VRF systems for larger buildings, and air purifiers. Single-zone or multi-zone: why it matters for repair
A single-zone system is one outdoor unit and one indoor head. When it stops cooling, the cause is somewhere in that pair.
A multi-zone system runs two or more indoor heads from one outdoor unit. The first question there is whether every head has the problem or just one:
- Every head blows warm air: look at the outdoor unit, its power supply, the refrigerant circuit or the compressor drive.
- One head lags behind: look at that head’s filter, coil, blower wheel and sensor, and at the line set feeding it.
- Heads take turns sitting idle: one room is calling for heat while another wants cooling. A typical multi-zone outdoor unit runs in one mode at a time, so conflicting requests leave a head waiting. That is a settings matter, not a broken part.
LG wall unit not cooling: checks in order
- Remote and mode. Confirm it is in cool or heat, not dry or fan, and that a timer or sleep setting is not limiting it. Fresh batteries in the remote rule out the simplest cause.
- Filters. The mesh filters behind the front panel clog quickly. Rinse them, let them dry fully, and put them back.
- Blower wheel and coil. A dark, grimy blower wheel or coil chokes airflow and often smells musty. That takes a proper cleaning with the unit protected, not a spray can.
- Outdoor unit clearance. Leaves, a fence panel or stored boxes against the coil choke it during a June to September hot spell.
- Fault code. LG indoor units report many faults as a code on the display. Note it before you cut the power.
- Communication wiring and refrigerant. A wiring fault between the head and the outdoor unit, or a slow leak at a flare joint, is a common reason a mini-split quits. A leak is found and sealed before any refrigerant goes in.
Water dripping from an LG indoor unit
Every indoor head makes water when it cools. That water collects in a small pan and leaves through a condensate line, sometimes with a pump. Drips down the wall usually mean the line is clogged with slime, it has lost its slope, or the pump has stopped. A coil that iced up behind a dirty filter can also overflow the pan as it thaws. Switch the unit off and call before the drywall soaks it up.
LG VRF in offices and shops
VRF systems run many indoor units from shared outdoor equipment through a network of refrigerant piping and control wiring. In offices, retail spaces and restaurants around the territory, trouble usually shows up as one zone that will not hold temperature, or as a code across the whole system. Service starts with the central controller’s error history, then moves to the indoor unit, the piping and the outdoor modules. See VRF and VRV systems and commercial HVAC.
LG air purifiers and smoke season
LG also makes air purifiers. In late summer and fall, wildfire smoke can keep windows shut for days. Ductless homes, including many Eichler homes in Sunnyvale and Cupertino, have no central filter to upgrade, so room purifiers carry more of the load there.
