Trane heating and cooling repair in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Cupertino covers two different worlds. In homes it means gas furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers and ductless units. On offices, shops and restaurants it often means a packaged rooftop unit. Trane equipment is made by Trane Technologies for both residential and commercial use, which is why the same name can appear on a hall-closet furnace and on a unit above a store. Trane heat pump repair
Heat pumps carry the heating through mild winters here and do the cooling in summer, so a failure can arrive in any month. What we check:
- Thermostat setup: heat pump mode, the reversing valve setting and backup heat. A mismatch makes a healthy heat pump look broken.
- Defrost: on cold nights frost forms on the outdoor coil, and the system switches into defrost to melt it. A cloud of vapor and a short pause are part of that; a solid block of ice is not.
- Reversing valve: a valve that sticks leaves the system locked in heating or in cooling.
- Outdoor fan, capacitor and contactor: tested under load, since a weak part can pass a quick look.
- Backup heat: electric strips in the air handler should come on when the heat pump cannot keep up, and stay off the rest of the time.
- Refrigerant and compressor: checked after the airflow and electrical tests, because a dirty filter or coil can mimic a low charge.

Trane furnace repair: the safety switches
A Trane gas furnace protects itself with switches, and most “furnace keeps shutting off” calls end at one of them:
- Pressure switch: proves the inducer is venting combustion gases. A blocked flue, or a plugged condensate trap on a high-efficiency furnace, trips it.
- High-limit switch: opens when the heat exchanger runs too hot, usually from poor airflow: a dirty filter, closed registers or a weak blower.
- Rollout switch: trips when flame rolls out of the burner area, a sign of a blocked heat exchanger or a venting problem. It needs a diagnosis, not just a reset.
- Flame sensor: shuts the gas off if it cannot prove a flame.
- Door switch: cuts power when the blower door is off or not seated.
A switch that trips is doing its job. Resetting it again and again without finding why can hide a venting or heat exchanger problem, which is a carbon monoxide risk. Trane rooftop and packaged units
Many offices, retail spaces and restaurants in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara are heated and cooled by packaged rooftop units: compressor, coils, blower and gas heat in one cabinet on the roof. Rooftop service typically covers:
- filters, belts and blower bearings;
- condenser and evaporator coil cleaning, which matters more on restaurant roofs near kitchen exhaust;
- condensate drains and traps;
- electrical connections, contactors and capacitors;
- the gas heat section before the heating season;
- economizer dampers on units that have them.

Trane furnace installation
When a Trane furnace is past repair, the replacement is more than swapping a box. Sizing should come from the house, not from the old unit’s label. Venting has to suit the furnace type: a high-efficiency condensing furnace vents through plastic pipe and needs a condensate drain, while a standard-efficiency furnace uses a metal flue. The ducts, the return and the electrical supply get checked, and a permit is part of the job. Ask for a quote that shows equipment, labor, the permit and optional upgrades on separate lines. Parts, warranty and repair-or-replace
Before a compressor, a coil or a heat exchanger is approved, review the model number, serial number, system age, parts availability and warranty paperwork.
